CNN’s Dana Bash Slams Trump for ‘Abhorrent’ Ratings Comment About Arpaio Pardon

When the President was asked about pardoning Arpaio at his press conference today, he said, “I assumed the ratings would be far higher than they would be normally [because] the hurricane was just starting.” CNN’s Jim Sciutto said, “Was that tongue-in-cheek or was he being serious? ‘Cause either way, it does seem quite disconnected from the suffering that we’re seeing on the ground in Texas.”

Bash said, “I don’t think it was tongue-in-cheek. I really don’t.” She said the President is someone who understand and “is “kind of obsessed with ratings,” but this particular comment went just a little too far: “Even if he is tongue-in-cheek, which I don’t think he was, the notion of the President of the United States saying that he announced something because ratings were high, where people were fleeing their homes… underwater, and some people losing their lives, is abhorrent.”
