Karl Rove, With A Straight Face, Just Said George W. Bush’s Speech Was Not About Trump

Thursday on The Daily Briefing, host Dana Perino called on Karl Rove — Deputy Chief of Staff to former President George W. Bush — to analyze a speech given Thursday by his former boss at a conference in New York City. During the address, Bush denounced bigotry and nativism — saying they threaten to tear the country apart.

“Being American involves the embrace of high ideals and civic responsibility,” said Bush. “This means that people of every race, religion and ethnicity can be fully and equally American. It means that bigotry or white supremacy in any form is blasphemy against the American creed.”

Rove, with a perfectly straight face, tried to tell the Fox News audience on Thursday afternoon that those comments from Bush had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with President Donald Trump. “This was planned over a year ago. These are things that he’s talked about before,” Rove said. He added, “[T]he people who are talking about this being an attack on this or that public figure are just looking to make a food fight where no food fight exists.”
